Where: Bruges, Belgium Who: Mr & Mrs Wanderlust with the whole Fam When: October 2019 What: A DIY Day trip in Brugges Bruges is an old town in Belgium that is truly amazing and will leave you wanting to see more, and stay there longer. We only planned for it as a daytour from Amsterdam but it is definitely needed to be written about even if we didn't get to stay the night there. How To Get There: Getting there from our accommodation in Amsterdam would be a 2ish-hour drive on a comfy bus, and even though there is cross border between Belgium and Netherlands, everything was smooth and not even an immigration or custom stop. There are also other ways getting there like a private car, or by train but we chose the bus for day tour as we are a large group of families with kids so we took comfort of day trip with a guide. Getting around Bruges is also easy either by walking, as it is a very walkable and beautiful city, or using bicycles. Cars are not allowed especially in the city center so if you plan to take taxi, it would mean that the taxi would just go around the outside of the center which will take a lot longer than just simply walking Where To Stay: We opted for the day trip, but we are truly wishing to have spent the night there as it really seems a magical place to spend time on. What To Do: 1. Enjoy the view around the canals Canals are really essential part of the town as it connected Bruges with the North Sea, and given the location of it which happens to be in the center of Europe. It only means that it is a trade center for merchant ships in old days and made the town really wealthy 2. Buy or eat something from the Markt The Market Square is at the heart of the city right in the middle and it is an open area about a few hectares. The giant 12th-century belfry tower and the West Flanders Provincial Court are among the historical and tourist buildings here but of course the area is also surrounded by shops and restaurants which you might want to consider checking out like getting a few Belgian chocolates, trying out Belgian beer or maybe a waffle or a fry, whichever you choose, dont forget to bring some home for your fam and friends. 3. Learn history and see old buildings A town very rich in history and literally has some of the most unique and beautiful old buildings aging few to couple of centuries ago, each has different story, for this trip we let our tour guide discuss as we did the day tour from Amsterdam. 4. Belfry Tower The medieval bell tower in the centre of Bruges, Belgium. Is one of the city's most prominent symbols, the belfry formerly housed a treasury and the municipal archives, and served as an observation post for spotting fires and other danger. Other Photos There is so much more to see and try at Bruges, we were a bit torn that we have to go back at the end of our day tour, but on the brightside we are going back to the beautiful city of Amsterdam and still have a few more days remaining on the final leg of our EU family trip to Paris. Given another chance would've stayed a night or 2 at this beautiful medieval town. Other Posts You Might Like:
